Freelancing: Got kinda screwed, should I make a deal about it?

I finished my first project for a company I'm freelancing for and the invoice was for $1590. I was given a check for $1,500 and didn't say anything about it but wonder if I should. They were very impressed with the work and said they were looking forward to working with me again so I was hesitant to make a fuss, but should I? I did put in those hours so I do feel screwed but don't want to jeopardize the relationship with the company.

I wouldn't say anything. For your next job with them just increase your rate by $100 to compensate.

yes. in the business world, you pay the invoice amount or at least negotiate with the vendor. It may have been an oversight on there part.

I don't take it back, I was paid over twice what my last job did for a week's worth of work, while in the comfort of my own home working in the field that I want to.

Then why are you bitching?

Want us to hold your wanker while you take a piss too?

Would you hold it if you asked nicely?

I'm bitching because I didn't get the rate we both agreed to and wonder if I should mention it or just pretend it didn't happen.. Is all..

How does that work?

Do you charge by the inch or ounce of fluid?

sheesh, i've never done this before and have questions and hoped the wonderful knowledge base that is ATOT could help. You know, now that this gig is over, you can hire me to help remove that stick out of your ass.. My rates are competitive.

I'd discuss it with someone off the record. Bring it with someone that you're familiar with just to make sure that they were satisfied with your work. When they recgonize their error tell them to forget it about this time and reiterate that you were thrilled to be able to help them meet their goals.

Just send them monthly statements detailing the unpaid balance. If you do any more work for them then invoice them for that work and include the $90 as being past due.

Edit: Also calling them and letting them know that the invoice was not paid in full is certainly not out of the question. Good business-people pay their bills. If they have any problems with your work they would consult with you BEFORE cutting the check rather than adjusting the payment themselves
