Freelancer Sound Issue (missing dialog)

I haven't played many PC games before, got Freelancer and I've been playing it. Unforunately, some of the dialog seems missing. In the game you talk to your wingmen, and occaisinally it plays some, sometimes not -- everytime I replay a saved game it gives me some but not all of the dialog between characters. The same happens on cut scenes -- I see the animation but don't hear the words they say. Some give it to me, some not. It's extremely annoying because you can't skip scenes, so sometimes there are 2 minute long cut scenes and you can't hear the words, nor are there subtitles.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is? The only other game I have running is GTA: Vice City, and I haven't noticed any audio issues with it at all. All other programs play sounds without any problems. System specs in my sig.

Go to the following directory, C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file ?l3codecp.acm?. If there happens to be another file named ?l3codeca.acm?, delete this too.
· If your system is Windows 98 or ME, open the system.ini file located in your system folder; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Delete ONLY the line that starts with ?msacm.l3acm=?. In the case of the Nimo codec pack, this will read ?msacm.l3acm=l3codecp.acm?
· If your system is Windows 2000 or XP, open the system registry editor (regedit) from the RUN command window.
· Locate and delete the following key: \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\
Drivers32\msacm.l3acm
· Execute the file named ?WMFADist.exe? (in Freelancer-Install-Folder) and follow on-screen instructions.
· Start the game

Thanks -- I got your reply at the same time it occurred to me to read the readme.rtf on the game CD. Same instructions. Works like a charm now.
