Give it 50 years and no one will think its cheesy. If we didn't have the statue of liberty no one would have liked "Liberty Tower" either.

You're probably right, but the fact of the matter is -we do have the statue of liberty. I think they would compliment each other pretty well.

Regardless, in time everyone will stop thinking it sounds cheesy.

Is this thing going to be taller than the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada? If it will be then Toronto has 5 years to make hay while the sun shines. 😛

There's different classes of "tallest buildings." The freedom tower isn't in competetion with the CN Tower, I think, because it's the spire that's the tallest part and not actually part of the building.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the CN tower remains the tallest "freestanding structure" still.

CN Tower is indeed still and will remain the tallest freestanding structure until Freedom tower is completed. CN tower has never been considered a building, since it just has small pods in the structure. CN tower also has the world's highest observation point at 446m. Freedom tower will take the title of that too, with an observatory at 457m. But keep in mind Freedom tower sort of cheats when compared with real buildings, as the building portion is only 350m, the rest is basically a large tower sitting on top. Even after Freedom tower is built, I'll still consider the Sears tower as the tallest building in North America, where its height is based purely on a real, inhabitable, building. Petronas tower was a major cheater, only taking the claim because its spires were taller than Sears, but its real building height was much shorter

Which is exactly why terrorism works. Because Americans are in such a damned hurry that if it didnt happen last week we no longer care. Only our country is so dumb as to suffer debatably the worst terroist attack ever and just a few short years later pretend like it never happened and walk around blindly waiting for it to happen again

not to mention we will now build it even taller than the last one... does anyone else think that is a little silly?

i am the first one to point out that we should not give in to these animals, but come on!!!
a 541 meter tower at the same spot? why don't we also paint a sign on it that says "bring it on" ??:disgust:

.....Meanwhile, back at the Freedom Tower....

"Holy pipedream Batman, that thing would tip the planet off balance!!"

"That's true, Robin, which is why we must put a stop to this nefarious endeavor!"

"To the Freedom-mobile!!!!"

Thank you for making me spray orange juice all over my monitor 😀

How about... the world trade center? What a novel idea.

I was thinking the same thing since the subway signs are still labeled World Trade Center.

its pathetic, the terrorists have won.

the twin towers were revolutionary for their time, so much space, so tall, so imposing, so impressive. most space ever.

now we build a timid little skinny tower😛 sads.
