China supposedly owns a big portion of the debt. Does anyone disagree with this statement? Is this not an oxymoron?

I have my 401K invested in the S&P 500. That probably means I'm the fractional owner of several major tobacco companies and several major oil companies. So it could be said that I'm financing lung cancer and climate change.

But that would be stupid.

There is no communism in China, there is a major slave labor force that raised the living standard of everyone on Earth, free or not.

Communism died in China with the death of Mao, which is a good thing.

They operate as a state capitalist economy now. In many respects, many in the Communist Party China's leadership display purer capitalist tendencies than we do.

China is now divesting itself of our debt, so this issue may be moot in a couple years.

China is only communist in name anymore and, in fact, they refer to themselves as socialists. The ruling party still calls themselves the communist party, but obviously they no longer attempt to redistribute all the wealth or own everything and even their constitution defines them as socialist. Here's a list of all the socialist and communist countries in the world today.

People's Republic of China
Republic of Cuba
Laos - Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Vietnam - Socialist Republic of Vietnam
Democratic Republic of Afghanistan
Socialist People's Republic of Albania
People's Republic of Benin
People's Republic of Bulgaria
Chinese Soviet Republic
People's Republic of the Congo
Czechoslovak Socialist Republic
People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
Finnish Democratic Republic
German Democratic Republic
Political Committee of National Liberation
People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada
People's Republic of Hungary
Democratic Kampuchea
People's Republic of Kampuchea
Mongolian People's Republic
People's Republic of Mozambique
People's Republic of Poland
People's Republic of Romania
Somali Democratic Republic
Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
Tuvan People's Republic
Democratic Republic of Vietnam
People's Democratic Republic of Yemen
Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia

That's the hard core list that doesn't include countries like the US where a significant portion of the nation's wealth is redistributed through welfare, SS, healthcare, etc. We do business with most them so what's your point? That our freedom is financed by the third world? Duh!

China hasn't divested itself of shit. It's merely moving the money around. It *MUST* accumulate the debt, it's a simple function of international trade.

The only thing China is financing is its own economy.

Pretty much all free countries turn into socialist countries. When poor people vote, they vote to take your money. The only way to stop this is to stop people from voting.

So the way to promote freedom is to stop people from voting and slavery is freedom. George Orwell would be proud.

No, practically all "free" countries realize that living in a shithole without a major economy and society structure blows goats.

During the Revolutions of 1989, communist rule was overthrown and soon after, Poland became what is constitutionally known as the "Third Polish Republic". Poland is a unitary state made up of sixteen voivodeships (Polish: województwo). Poland is a member of the European Union, NATO, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Do0d, your list is wildly outdated, not to mention otherwise ridiculously incomplete. It fails almost completely

For starters, there hasn't been a USSR since 1991. Same with the GDR (the former East Germany.). The Czechoslovak Socialist Republic died in 1989, and there hasn't been a Czechoslovak anything since it split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993. And this is just for starters.

As for also being incomplete, among many others, Myanmar (what we used to call Burma) considers itself socialist, and if you don't think the cradle to grave socialism of the Scandinavian states qualifies them as socialist I'm not sure what to say to you.

In fact, since you seem to want to include the US, you can't begin to exclude Canada, most of the rest of the Americas, and really all of both Eastern and Western Europe, all of which are much more "socialist" than our country. And by that measure, we'd have to include large swaths of Africa and Asia -- pretty much most of the world.

Did you get that list out of some old grade-school text book you found in a dumpster, or what? :p

^ that is correct.

To that monster list, you can add Republic of Belarus.

I got that list off Wikipedia, so complain to them.

Just what the world needs, more people arguing about the definition of socialism. It was just an example of how many socialist countries there are in the world and never meant to be a definitive list. Please, feel free to give us the "definitive" list of socialist countries in the world along with the location of Elvis if possible.

Use common sense at times when pulling things from Wiki.

A red flag should have jumped out when you saw the Eastern Block and the USSR still there.

Yeah pretty much. If you don't want me takin yo shit, the only way to stop me is to have a dictator who doesn't let me vote.

Luckily I live in a free country where I'm free to take yo shit. 12 years of free school, 2 free hospital stays, like 5 or 6 years of very heavily subsidized university. I'm living the dream. I didn't pay for any of it!!! I didn't even pay federal income tax last year :awe:

Lack of intellect, or lack of respect for nitpicking assholes who will attack their grandmother just for laughs or to force their opinions down everyone's throat.

Again, the accuracy has almost nothing to do with why I posted it and you can split semantic hairs all you want and debate the "true" meaning of socialism until the crows fly home. Next you'll be complaining about the slightest grammatical and spelling mistakes.

Not nitpicking at all....you just need to read what you copy and paste off of wiki-pedia....

As Common Courtesy told you --
Use common sense at times when pulling things from Wiki.
A red flag should have jumped out when you saw the Eastern Block and the USSR still there.

There is nothing funny about calling a country that is NOT Communist -- Communist!

Use common sense when picking fights! Why don't you go try and teach your grandmother how to suck eggs or something. Then come back and try to convince us you wouldn't pick a fight with the nearest cobra about a rat its about to eat. In case you haven't noticed this is not an academic website, we have more posers here then a loony bin full of Napoleons, and all this nitpicking is just so much crap that doesn't convince anyone of anything. Either address the essential argument or get lost.
