freecreditreport.com scam ?

lozina

Lifer
I noticed a charged on my credit card recently for $79.95 from a "CIC*CREDIT MONITORING - 800-2202626 CA". Googling it yielded a web site which explained it was a fraud. I also found out the company owns freecreditreport.com and I remember one year ago getting a free credit report as I was just about to purchase my new vehicle. Should I just file a dispute with my credit card co or try calling this CIC CREDIT MONITORING place ?

Did you read the website?

Everything I've ever seen from some site like that will give you a free credit report, but then sign you up for their credit service.

Did you give them your CC number?

Happened to a relative of mine that used freecreditreport.. although, she never got her credit report.. or her money back :-\

Yes, all the credit reporting places I came accross required a CC number, and I do remember some bogus service you may get charged with which was like $9.99, if you kept your account or something like that. No where did they say "we will charge you $79.95 in about a year from now"

theres an 800 number on the back of your CC

use the words "unauthorized charges," sprcify which should be charged back and have the card reissued

problem solved 🙂

I got a credit report from them a long time ago. Then they did the same thing. I called them and said that I didnt want it and to reverse the charges, and they did. I havent heard/seen anything since then.

scam.. like many others, they rely on you not canceling before the trial period is over.

whenever i sign up for things like this, I always put a reminder on my outlook calendar several days in advance of trial period ending

It's not a scam. Misleading website name maybe, but not a scam.
If you read what you agreed to when you signed up for your free credit report, you would have known that you signed up for their credit monitoring service. You were also informed that you could cancel your membership after getting your report and you would not have been charged anything.

It's all spelled out when you sign up. It's not their fault you didn't read the agreement that you agreed to.
