FreeBSD ports

Ports compile the packages for you and for something like Gnome that will take quite a while. What you want are packages.

No problem, I'll just install gnome I thought. I go to the gnome2 directory and do a make install clean.

It took many hours and would prompt me while installing the packages to pick what options I want. Am I doing anything wrong here? And is there a way to make it auto accept the default options when installing those packages?

As Nothingman said, it will take quite a few hours to compile something like that but you didn't have to pull it from ports, x, KDE and Gnome comes precompiled and you can choos it during install or install it later without having to go through ports to get the linux version.

Just install it from directories and it will take less than an hour.
