Got a new notebook with a wireless card installed. My home service is sbcglobal dsl. The only time I'll use the notebook is when travelling and to check my email. Don't have a cell phone. Can hot spots be used to log-in to sbc or do I have to hook up to 56k somewhere and dial or what?

Free Hot Spot Wireless let you log to the Hotspot owner LAN.

Once you are logged in you can use what ever Internet they (Hot Spot) provide.

When you are connected to the Internet you can log to any email that you have.

You can use a 56k modem only if your ISP gave you a stand alone DialUp service in addition to the DSL.

Otherwise the only place that you can use your DSL is in your Home.
