Free weight lifting advise needed...................

I have a weight bench that is a laundry holder that I would like to start using.
I have a few questions. First, what would be the best weight to start off with?
Second, how long should I go for....like 20 minutes a day?

The reason Im wonder is because a couple years ago I started lifting with them and I really hurt myself.
I was doing curls until I couldnt lift anymore and I woke up the next morning and my arms were stuck up.
Obviously, I did something wrong. I do not want to look like a Praying Mantis again.

😀

just experiemnt with diff weights until you find one that allows you to only do about 10 reps

if you're looking to actually gain strenght all over, you can't just do bench presses 😛

Yep, and what you experienced happens to all newbies. Your muscles get very sore and stiff in response to new demands. Just start off with lighter weights and go easy the first few weeks. After that the soreness and stiffness will go away for the most part.

Next, you have to do more than one kind of lifting, and proper equipment is important. Here is a no-nonsense site that can help you build a reasonable weight lifting program.

Finally, don't work the same body part two days in a row. Your muscles need at least 48 hours to recover (that's when they grow) after you've worked them.
