3/11/2003 UPDATE: - Free webhosting accounts are no longer available at this time.

I'd like to offer FREE Webhosting for AT'ers including www.yourwebsite.com e-mail FTP webmail and your own forums.

The resources I have available are 5GB diskspace and 50GB bandwidth on a Nocster.com server.

Since this is FREE and only intended to host small personal, hobby or family websites (no pr0n, warez, IRC, gaming, busy forums, pichosting, etc.) I was thinking of offering 50MB diskspace and 500MB bandwidth per month FOR FREE.

What do you think of those limits for resources?
perfect
too low
too high

If I offer 50MB/500MB webhosting accounts I can offer up to 100 free accounts on a first come, first serve basis.

Maybe 25MB/250MB offering 200 webhosting accounts to AT'ers? I need input!!!

As soon as I get RossMANTech.com's personalized nameservers registered and a simple webpage up and running then I can begin issuing free webhosting accounts.

Roger - No prob, just shoot me an e-mail.

If you don't already have a domain registered, go ahead and register one, your website should be online shortly.

*runs to figure out the cost of registering*

You'll have E-mail once I get registration figured out. It's only valid for a year, right? What do I do then?

namecheap charges $8.88 a year, godaddy is $8.95 a year.
sometimes you get a discount for paying for more years at once, but its not significant.
once you get a domain name email rossman, once he is ready, you go back to your register and change the dns records to point to rossman's webserver. in a day or two, you will have a website!

Can we buy more webspace and bandwith? :D

I don't use even close enough to justify $100+ a year for the regular webhosting services. But say like $25 a year and bump up size/bandwith.

What do you think?

Thanks for the free webhosting regardless. :D

Nice idea, how do you prove someone subscribes though?

Roger - minendo will help get your VW site up and running, might be up as soon as tonight or tomorrow ;)

Zenmervolt - I recommend registering your domain with NameCheap.com for $8.88/yr I will offer free webhosting for as long as I can.

johngute - Good idea but I don't think preferential treatment should be given, whether you're Elite, a Nef, or a Junior Member everyone gets the same type of account. After all it's FREAKIN' FREE :)

Gr1mL0cK - No you cannot buy more space/bandwidth, however if you can afford a few bucks a year:

bleeb - How is all this free? Very simple. I pay for a web server, I donate my time and it's resources for the good of AT, that's basically it. I'm paying around $20/mo and Paypal donations are accepted.

So far I have about 15 e-mails, I think I'll stop around 100.

85 more accounts to go.

YGPM RossMAN. :)

Far as the space/bandwidth - looks pretty good. Probably too much space and not enough bandwidth if anything, but hey - it's FREE with no ads!
