(free) way to check if you have a warrant?

Inspired by this thread. I was pulled over by a DPS officer in northern AZ because apparently the window tint on my truck was too dark. I was given a fix or repair order that was supposed to be taken care of within 72 hours. I was on my way to do some field work for school, so the ticket became absorbed into the rest of the crap I have filling my glove box.

After reading the above thread I remembered I never took care of my "ticket" and was wondering if there is some kind of mild warrant that I might have that would pop up should I ever get pulled over again in AZ (yes I live in AZ). All the immediate links I found on google were ~$30 to do a search. I would like to know if this event went on record (seems like such a small detail to me) or if something like this isnt worth the system's time to worry about.

You usually have 2 weeks to do something about traffic tickets before it becomes a warrant. When it finally does become a warrant, you will either be informed via a nasty letter or you'll get cops beating down your front door to take you in. The latter I have never heard of happening in the case of a traffic ticket.

This happened in December of 05, I have never been contacted by anyone about it even though the officer took down my information. This didnt take place in a city but on the highway between Flagstaff and Kingman.

I got a fix-it ticket for not having a front plate on my car in February. I just got pulled over again two weeks ago in the same car for the same thing (but it was on the dash this time). Since the guy didn't say anything, I'm assuming there was no warrant.
But now my license plate is attached to the front of my car 😛

Did you have it fixed?

If you did, I suggest that you call the office of the jurisdiction that cited you. State police?

If not, I suggest that you fix it, and then call them.

I should mention that now it has been 6 months and I have not seen any repercussions of not fixing the tint (surely jinxing myself here) I really dont want to. The only motivating factor to actually getting the tint fixed at this point is to avoid any further fines/ hassle if I should get pulled over again and it pops up.

1) Im a cheap bastard, so if there is no financial motivation to fix them (i.e. avoiding a large fine) then I don't want to pay to replace my existing dark tint w/ lighter tint

2) I like the dark tint

3) although not the main issue here, I think its a silly law

thats sad they actually pulled you over on i40 for something as small as tint. my truck is tinted legal because im afraid of being pulled over. Now the real slap in the face is i saw a sheriffs truck with illegal tint in front. on a damn cop car? im in Kingman myself, but after reading this maybe i wont be going any darker in the front.

I had a warrant issued for my arrest because I mailed in the proof that I fixed a headlight 2 days late. Stupidest thing ever.

I have a tint strip along the top of my windshield that he commented on as well, telling me it was too dark (even though some factory windshields have dark tinted glass in the same place). After he wrote out my warning he wanted to stay and chat, asking me what kind of work I do, where I was headed, telling me how he doesn't see much going on except for rental cars so my truck just "stuck out". Needless to say I was in no mood to talk and just wanted to be on my way (although I was polite to avoid a fine).

You could always call or rather have someone else call the county court house down on Alameda St. I believe this would be a matter of public record. I'm pretty sure that if there is a warrant, as long as you settle your unpaid tickets the warrant gets dropped.

Also, now that I'm curious... what's the law on tint here? I always thought we could go as dark as we wanted too in AZ short of spray painting the windows black. At least I've not heard of anyone ever getting pulled over for it...

I don't have my windows tinted but I'm thinking of getting them done after this last weekend!!! It was 10FUCK-ME degrees out!!

JR..

Unfortunately, criminals/gangbangers have made dark tinted windows illegal. If the cop can't see thru the front side windows, you're likely to get a ticket. Some places it's only a fixit ticket, others it is accompanied by a stiff fine AND a fix-it order. Here in Kahleeforneeya, I think you have 30 days to prove compliance, after that, you can get another ticket, and after the first one, you're fair game for more tickets, with no fix-it option. (you still are supposed to comply with the fix-it order of the first one) after that, you get stuck with the fines as well...

You can go limo or dark as satans asshole on rear and rear-side windows, but on front driver and passenger side windows there is a limit. Most stores in town will not install tint darker than this by law, but i had mine done on the side by the owner of a tint store. I dont know the actual light percent transmission that is allowed, but the trooper had a little meter that slid over my window and measured how dark they were. So, if you dont want the hassle, just go to a store and tell them to put on the legal limit and you should be fine. My truck is non-extended cab so my side windows tint matches my rear window (~limo). It looks great and I have NEVER been pulled over in town even when stopped alongside police in town (they must have better things to do). I think your major concern would be motorcycle cops and DPS on the highway.

Pick up the phone and call the jurisdiction where you got the ticket.

How would you swing that one tactfully, though?

"Yes...I was just wondering how I would check if there was a warrant on someone...you see, a friend of mine..."
"OK, what's your name?"
"err, John. John Doe."

I always just get the factory tint on the windows and let it be. buy a sun shade or those share things that they make for kids if you are really worried about it.

Gee, how about just 'splaining that it got overlooked?
"Yes, I got the infraction corrected, but never took care of the ticket". (You'd better be prepared to prove that it WAS corrected) If not, get it fixed THEN make the call.

a friend of mine got a ticket for a broken tail light. he forgot about it and two years later he went through a road block and ended up in jail for a few days. they even transported him from one county to another in full chains. now that is what i call fair justice 😕

Lots of cars look better with tinted windows.

Yeah, DPS aren't too bad for the most part, but some can be assholes. The sherriffs don't seem to give a rat's ass about anything, and Tucson cops aren't too bad either except for, as you mentioned, the motorcycle cops. Pisses me off when they do their little speed trap routine up on Speedway and you see someone pulled over in every last parking lot!

Anyway, I've got a regular cab pickup too and was going to do my own tint, limo all around. But I guess I'll just take it to Audio Excuse or somewhere and let them fool with it.

Yeah just call and tell then what you want. You dont have to give a name. Besides its not like your going to get in more trouble by you knowing you have a warrant out for you.
