They got some Chicago ones at least... So how is the service? Anyone want to chime in here and give the rest of us who didn't know this the lowdown :).

Hrm... Just got my number - it has a 4 digit extension - what does that mean when people try to fax something to that number? Can they just punch it in or do they have to use the handset to dial and enter the extra numbers? Going to have to give it a test run after a bit of sleep .

If you are interested in using this for faxes it does use an extension number that throws somepeople off. When you send a fax you have to make the machine pause a few seconds then enter the extension. I have found that www.ureach.com is the best option for receiving faxes but I believe that they do charge a smal fee for your own number now.

I have found that faxwave.com is the best one to use - you get your very own fax number......and totally free.

I've used onebox for several years now. It's pretty good, here's a rundown of pro's and con's

Pro's:
Access your email, faxes, voicemail from whereever there's a web connection or phone line
Check mail by phone
Has addressbook and calendar features
Local phone numbers for voicemail checking
Free Service
No ads
Mail filters & blocks available
Will forward mail

Con's
Only 3mb of free space - pay monthly fee for more
Extensions for faxes suck... difficult to get people to do it
No easy way to send faxes to people
No POP access to mail folders

I like this service better than hotmail and yahoo because I can play voicemail directly from it. This was really good when I was job hunting cause recruiters seem to like to call you over emailing you.

I don't know if I'd trust these freebies any more. I tried to fax something to one of our vendors a few weeks ago, and the number kept turning up as disconnected. I called him about it, and he said he'd just received an email from the free service he was using thanking him for his "business", and they were kaput! Now he has to reprint all his business cards and letterhead, and he's installing a dedicated fax line. Usually, you really do get what you pay for. Check my sig for my opinion... ;)
