Hey all, I just found the coolest thing.

1.) Dial 1-800-555-TELL from any phone
2.) Listen to the prompts

It's all voice activated, so you can do it while driving. And yes, it's totally free! The only catch is you're limited to 4 minutes per call, but you can call right back! Awesome for while driving! Also, the voice recognition is very good, it catches what I'm saying probably 98% of the time, with NO training. If you have voice dialing on your phone, it's totally hands free.

Enjoy.

Oh, and I should mention, no ads. God knows how they make any money. Oh well!

For those who think I'm spamming:

I agree with good_guy/ I was in a Costco parking lot the other way with the birds chirping and a slight wind russtling and that was enough ffor the recorded op to tell me "sorry, could you please repeat that" and "I'm sorry, but you're too illiterate to use this service" (okay I made up the last one) but at least they have a option to use the keypad.

All in all the #121 feature is pretty cool.. you can have it setup so that it recognizes your "favorites" and give you local weather and traffic within 1-2 mins. Above all, it's FREE. Not sure if it applies to 555-TELL works.

This is sweet... much better than the local "free" weather lines... which you have to listen to 3mins worth of self-proclaiming ads for 10 seconds worth of weather with a mix of time...

I had no problem with voice recognition either.

Technology report for today is about SIP phones.

Is this the same thing as "tell me"? It's been around for about 5 years. I used to use it on car trips for weather, directions, boredom, etc. I'll have to check it out in a few minutes...

Yep - same thing... Although I have to say, it was much better years ago... At that time you could ask for things like restaurants in your vicinity... It was great for finding food in a new place... Haven't used Tell Me much recently though... I believe Tell Me's technology is what now powers the 800 directory (1-800-555-1212)...

Yeah, the Sean Connery impersonation is a hoot, as are the livestock sound effects when playing blackjack "Country Style". :)

Um, I assume any call (besides customer service) uses your minutes.
