If you got some money either (a) in the market or (b) ready to put in the market, Ameritrade will give you a free Tungsten T3 handheld and 25 internet-based trades if you sign up for an account (minimum $10K account balance, though typically you can fund these accounts by transfering securities you already own.)

You'll have to keep the account open for 6 mo., but still not a bad deal.

do you have to keep the 10k in for the whole 6 months, or can you drop it to like 5k after a while?

After calling a rep, they said the only one they could find in their system was a Tungsten E for a $5,000 investment or an i705 for a $50,000 investment.

Is there a code for this offer? Link?

Looks like a good deal. Looks like savings of over $600 if you add the 25 free trades.

Edit: Looks like offer is dead. I can't find the offer anywhere on their site minus the link from here.

Deal says 3/2/04 to 5/31/04, so maybe it isn't fully kicked in yet. Still this kind of thing has to have confirmation.

if you transfer stocks into ameritrade and want to terminate after 6 months, it will cost you around $30 per security to transfer them out to another broker

ameritrade is not cool

they are not hot

they are a fee driven company that will take your money.

they consolidated with datek, and made things worse

they have ceo's being paid millions, have had several multi million dollar law suits levied against them and have lost owing millions.
and
finally they just pass these millions in debt onto their users in the form of fees.

they will give new users 25 free trades but do nothing to keep their old user base.

read the fine print - you will realize that with so many fees ultimately they royally suck!

Lol, I know your type. Thinking you knew the market you lost your pissy little 2k account being a moron and somehow because your account was there it's AMTD's fault. OMG... a business that charges fees? WHAT A CONCEPT. You mean they actually want to be paid for the service they provide??? Those bastards.

Get outta here with that lame sh!t....

what fees are they assessing? it looks like the main thing is that they charge $15 per quarter if your account has less than $2000. That's better than etrade where they charge $25 for accounts less than $5000.

Schwab charges $75 if you have less than $50,000.

<-- Just left Schwab

i'm on the fence on this. on the one hand, this looks pretty good, and the fees seem decent. on the other hand, i'm familiar with etrade

yes. i got mine in just 2 weeks after my acct opened. and don't forget your 25 commission free trades within the first 5 weeks.

==++ using wife's name to open another acct? sounds a good idea but does ameritrade require a different address in order to qualify to the promotion? ++==

Do NOT get hook to Ameritrade !!!!!

I used to have lots account with Datek which is a very good company. After it got brought by Ameritrade the rate from $9.99 to $10.99. If you don't trade for few month they double charge you and want you do deposit more money to your account and keep senting e-mail to bug you. I finally left them and went to Scottrade with is a much nice service!
