I've been reading about free to air satellite tv, I was wondering, if there are any good websites to get more information?

So far, I've only seen vendor's webpage and it appears that the only receiver you can us is Samsung 3700. And the only Satellite that I've seen that works is Telstar 5 which have TONs of stations that is not in English.

They are free because you don't need to buy a card for your receiver, so there's got to be more free satellites out there (with English content)... would Samsung 3700 work with them?

Anyone?

Probably not. There are many satellite bands / frequency blocks. The DTV and DISH systems are in the same band, even use the same basic frequencies ... but the modulation and/ or encoding are incompatible. FTA (IIRC) is in the same neighborhood as DSS, buy again, different encoding or signalling.

If you want a variety of programming for free / semi-free, then C-Band (The "Big Ugly Dish" - BUD) is your best way to go. You can also get dish and receivers that'll let you receive (as a subscriber) the DirectTV programming on the C-Band dish.

Bottom line: depending on the function of the satellite, the bands, frequency blocks, polarity, signalling, polarity, and the way the information is encoded will vary. Some receivers will have the capability to receive multiple bands and encoding.

There are a couple web sites that describe each satellite, each transponder, its location, the programming, and all the parameters necessary to receive its signal (open/unencrypted signals only).

Check out www.lyngsat.com .... something like that..

Good Luck

Great! I'll look into it.

I hope the Samsung 3700 that I bid on just now, will work with multiple "bands". :)

Oh yea, I read the instruction, and they mentioned the direction to point the dish, but is it different with east coast and west coast?
