Sorry. Didn't mean to thread crap... just wanted to express my dismay-

You mean just like the original game? That game was extremely poorly written. When you can run QUAKE 3 with it's real time 3D rendering at insanely high resolutions and still have lighting-fast reaction times, it really makes games like The Sims look like they were written by a team of monkeys. I'm not talking about the gameplay, I'm talking about the sheer slowness that it runs at on a modern computer. This game should NOT be that CPU or graphics intensive.

Damn...what a waste of time.

Downloaded it from FilePlanet....40 min wait, 4 hr download from LA Server.

Long ass install process, then register, then FINALLY they ask for the f***ing CD key...... LAME. :|

Why even bother have the download on the site? 158,008 downloads * 1.2GB per download....holy cr*p...lotta bandwidth down the tubes.

Or am I just missing something obvious?

The cd key is free..... what's to complain? Are you just too slow to comprehend how to install a game?

FYI. Buzz in the game is that the BETA will be cut off in a few days and wiped. Can anyone else confirm that?

THE UPCOMING DATA WIPE
Within the next few days we will conduct a complete data wipe of all the data on the cities. Unlike the last server wipes, this will affect ALL data, including the avatars, names, money, properties and possessions. This data wipe is being driven by significant changes to underlying TSO data structures, along with known corrupted data within the playtest which causes player issues and server crashes.
The plan is as follows: We will first roll this new version out to Test Center shortly and the data there will be wiped. We will then migrate to Alphaville and Interhogan where the data will also be wiped. Finally, we will take this version to all other cities and data wipe them also.

To drive up peak usage on certain cities, we will be bringing fewer cities back online after the upcoming wipe. We will, however, open all the current cities as well as several new ones prior to launch.

We HOPE this will be the last wipe we will have to perform before launch; however, we reserve the right to wipe the servers again if it becomes necessary for development reasons. Such reasons might include the following conditions: (1) the eradication of any significant exploit which unbalances the economy and/or (2) an unanticipated development issue and/or (3) the occurrence of data corruption in our test. If any of these happen, we will inform you of both our plans and rationale as soon as possible.

Data wipes are an unfortunate, but normal artifact of the game development and testing process and will never be done once the game is public. We have also committed to refrain from wiping any data once we are two weeks away from our launch date.

The free gaming isn't over, but everyone will just have to start over from scratch...

Has anybody had any problems installing from the CDs? Both mine, and a friends, will not install. Then the CD player won't open without a reboot. It's a Beta alright.

The game might suck compared to FPS technologically I agree but the publisher won't care as they carry the buckets of cash they make to the bank. The Sims is the best selling game of all time, as sad as that may be. Your standard FPS games and even hit Blizzard games don't even come close. These games are made for Joe and Tammy Sixpack to run on thier Emachine. They sell like mad no matter how bad they are.

My nephew is a Beta tester for EA games and this game currently.
He rarely goes online as most of the in house testing is done on the other cities (10 in total I believe).
They are hoping for a release from beta of the final game the early part of Christmas week.
I am hoping this too since if it's released from beta before the 23rd my nephew gets
the 24th off and if not then he has to work.
This doesn't mean the game is ready for pay play yet, it only means that it's gone to release
copy and then they will most likely have to get it out to stores.
It is definetely not final yet, but soon.
Probably not worth the download at this point though since it will soon be pay.

I remember always wishing when i was playing simcity 2000 back in the day, that I could talk to people from the surrounding cities. The people that ran those cities were all so quick at getting huge cities!

oh the great memories :)

simfarm too, gotta love farming strawberries :p

When I talked to him last night he said he was still working on it. He is not a programmer, only a tester so maybe it's
something online specific, for a patch or for something else. Since the testers are actually not full time EA employee's
they don't tell them everything. He just does what they tell him to like most of us poor slobs.

I wonder if they plan to launch the real online game before the 24th and they are just doing all kinds of final testing.
This makes more sense, since you would want to be absolutely sure.
All we know is that if the game is done before the 24th he has it off and if they are not happy with it he doesn't. I was thinking
that this was pre-gold, but it's more likely pre-online instead.

EDIT: Just talked to him gain and indeed the game has gone to final as was stated. He is currently testing the first patch
which will be out the day the game hits the stores. He expects to be on the testing for this game at least another month.
The game is suppose to be hitting stores next week.
