From the site: "File your taxes for FREE through the Quicken Tax Freedom Project if your adjusted gross income is less than $25,000. "

Poor me -- if I do nothing, I have to pay $29.95 for fed and $12.95 for state. If I contribute ~$600 to a traditional IRA...free + an extra $90 refund :)

<< Get TaxAct Basic for free and you're not putting your data on somebody else's server. >>

Uhh, my bet is that you will at some point have to put it on a server unless you print out and mail your return.

Too bad I have made more than $25k AGI since I got out of the Navy. Military service -- talk about a cold deal.

Anyway, for those of you who are like me and don't qualify, in another thread richardycc pointed out this link to 50% off of the filing fee. If you need Quicken I have seen some deals where you basically get Quicken 2002 and Turbo Tax software for about $20 after rebates (check your big retail chain flyers) which could be a better deal for you. I say this because I think the TT software might include free e-filing, but if you are interested you should verify that yourself before you lay out the dough. I might be wrong, but since I already filed I'm too lazy to go look. Geez, I can't do everything for you.

You can go to the IRS and have your taxes done for free. If you have a difficult time with it you can have it done free, even if you have a small business!!! I am assuming this is everywhere(I am in CA)

Yeah, they want to make voluntary compliance as easy as possible. Of course, if you really want to deal with a government agency when a ten spot will shield you from that experience, well, you must really need to save $10!
