i wouldn't want to get locked in a 2yr cell contract. this market is so volatile, there's new and better fones every 6months and prices and features just get better and better.

I agree. I don't think I'd ever enter into a 2 year contract unless I got a really nice, expensive phone for cheap. I just broke out of Cingular's 2 year contract to switch to T-Mobile and had to pay $150. I was able to recoup some of my losses however, by selling my Moto T720 on eBay for $100.

You only have to do a 2 year contract if you want to waive the $36 activation fee. It's still a good deal if you pay the $36

my gf got the T610 for free with tmobile when she and i signed up for a family plan. my free phone was the samsung e715. whats the diff. b/t T610 and T616? is it just a different numbering designation like they had with the old nokia 6160/6190.

Dunno about the T610 but I have the T616 and you can't see jack on the screen in broad daylight

This could be flaming because ATT wireless just got bought out by cingular. If the two companies merge into one you able to get out of your contract because the cingular terms may be different than the terms you signed on with at A&TT. I don't know if you'll be able to do this because cingular is pretty good about grand fathering old contracts.

Info on merger

Once ATT and cingular finish their merger the quality should get alot better. I know in the bay area ATT sucks but if they used the combinded cell towards of cingular and Att the quality should be pretty damn good.
