Free space quickly dwindling on my Vertex 2

I just got my system up and running a few days ago. After loading Windows and Dragon Age I had about 72GB of free space left on my Vertex 2. After uninstalling and reinstalling DA:O I my free space had dropped to 70GB. A day later, I'm now down to 69.3GB free. :hmm:

Is this common of SSD's? I haven't loaded anything over the 24 hour period that would have taken up a whopping 700MB, so I'm not sure what's going on. Do I need some kind of program to keep my SSD from losing free space like this? I thought Windows 7 handled TRIM and clean up own its own.

Thanks.

Do you have trim turned on? I had to jump through a few hoops to get trim to work on my x25 m iirc. I also have a manual program on my desktop that I used to use pretty often. I'll run it tonight and compare my before/after numbers on the drive.

btw, you're lucky have started with 120gb! imagine what mine looks like after vista 64, dragon age, civ iv, and random other crap??? I'm down to 21gb and it's a constant battle. I can't wait for the gen 3 intels, if they're reasonably priced I think I'll get a 100-200gb drive just for my "currently played games" folder in the future.

I read a post from Tony at the OCZ forums that you're supposed to leave your computer idle at the login screen for a couple of hours each week to allow garbage collection to do its thing. But make sure to leave your power profile to never turn off your drives (it's in the advanced section). Try doing this overnight and see what happens.

From the OCZ wiki (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_set_up_Windows_on_a_VERTEX)

"For use within windows 7 there is absolutely no maintenance needed apart from allowing the machine to idle at the login screen for a few hours each week, this allows the garbage collection time to recover the drive and free up space TRIM has not been able to deal with."
