Depending on your problem, just use VLC.

i have no problem viewing it myself. someone else has a problem viewing it and cant view it unless its the correct format. i dont know why and i cant help them any other way other than getting it to the right format

erm, thanks, but that seems to want to make a dvd or something. it keeps insisting that i have 4.3gb free (which i dont), for three files that are less than 10mb total

Here's one I used to convert an xvid encoded .avi to .mpg for the same reason. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/internetvideoconverter.html It only took 5 minutes to convert a 30 minute file.

It converts between Mpeg (vcd/svcd/dvd compliant), DV, Quicktime, Windows Media, Xvid, H264, 3GP, PSP, iPod, Flash video (FLV, Swf) got from Youtube, DailyMotion, Google Video etc.

If all works as good as my conversion did this will be the Ifranview of video.
