Free Software for kids?

I am preparing a computer to be donated to a family in need. Does anyone here know a good suite for kids? I am looking for games and educational software that may be free or inexpensive.

Kids are aged 4 - 9.

I am surprised how little I know about software for children.🙁

Hah. I don't know why I didn't think of this.

All the software was provided by me free of charge, and the parents work in a Windows environment, so it would be something they are comfortable with.

For a couple specific recommendations Extreme Tux Racer is a fun game, and Tux Paint has been popular with young kids in my experience. Super Tux is a Super Mario type game you may want also.

Hell, try Open Arena, Xonotic, and World of Padman also for some FPS games. They may be a bit beyond the scope of what you're looking for, but they'll work on fairly low end hardware, and are very fun if you like arena combat games.
