Free Shipping for APO/FPO addresses

Great post, Chris!

I don't have any military-specific good deals to add to this (yet), but I thought I'd add a request-
Since there are still a lot of companies that won't ship to an APO/FPO address, I thought it might be useful to maybe put a heads-up in this thread about any current deals that will ship to a military address. I mean, it doesn't matter what kind of a discount they're offering if they'll only ship UPS, right?

I recently had to cancel a DreamCast purchase from www.returnbuy.com because they wouldn't ship USPS. (Luckily I found someone selling one, and they threw in Grandia II for the same price I would've paid from returnbuy.)

Note, they are also providing free shipping to domestic military installations - you may want to amend the thread title to reflect this. If I was in need of any of the stuff they sell I would definitely patronize them.

I'll add to this as I can relate to APO addresses from my own personal experience. I've been overseas at various APO addresses for over 20 years. A lot of mail order companies (and online sites) have contracts with firms such as UPS or Fed EX and rely entirely on them for their delivery needs. The only reason they don't use USPS is because they can't be bothered to send someone to the local P.O. to mail the item(s). Another reason is ignorance. A lot of companies think it is too expensive to mail something to an overseas APO address. That is BS! For instance, postage rates to an APO AE (Europe) is no more costly than sending something to New York. What a lot of people don't know, is the USPS is paid to get the mail to the port and the Dept of Defense pays the rest of the way. The DOD cost is absorbed in the annual appropriations. The firms that deliberately charge more to send something to an APO is doing nothing more then ripping off the military and govt civilians working overseas. I personally stay clear of those firms, usually after sending them a nasty gram.

Just another short note to add to my previous reply. There are thousands of military shoppers at overseas locations. Online purchasing, especially around the holidays, is increasing every year. Purchases from firms like Amazon, Tirerack, Quadratec Jeep, Booksamillion, you name it. There are quite a few.
Except of course Best Buy online. They don't send anything to APO's.

I know CDW.com shipps to FPO addresses, I was recently out on my ship and wanted to get some computer stuff for myself and they were the only company that I could find that would ship to FPO. I think Buy.com now shipps to FPO addresses too, but I'm not 100% on that. There are a lot of companies out there that loose a lot of business becuase when your trapped on a ship in the middle of the ocean for over 100 days straight, your bank accounts start to overflow and you have the need to order things and it's alomost impossible to find people who are willing to ship USPS. I just remembered that Crucial.com shipps too, but remember all these places overcharge for the use of USPS. So in recap:

CDW.com
BUY.com
CRUCIAL.com

Are companies that I think ship to FPO. 🙂

I have a huge list of companies who ship to apo/fpo which incidently can be anywhere in the world - thanks for that info which I am painfully aware of - I have been overseas 10 staight years and also am currently onboard a ship - in Japan.

Thing about Sidewinder is they ship FREE to apo/fpo.

I'm in Germany right now and purchase goods online two or three times a week.
Also, correction to my previous post. It's Buy.com that doesn't send to APO's. Not Best Buy. I've only bought at Best Buy stores in the states, never online.
Buy.com are the bad guys.

Thanks for the site, I am also in Germany and it is hard to find people willing to ship to us over here. HSN won't ship either and they gave me a pretty hard time about it too. There are a few that won't ship and it is always nice to find another company that is willing to ship to us over here (even better when it is free). Thanks

ragenasian, I got a huge list that I don't mind sending to anyone who wants it. I will send all the links in an html or a word file if anyone needs it. I am researching this all the time. I am in Japan.

Good lookin out shipmate. I'm always looking for sites that ship overseas. I'll keep my eyes out for deals for us.

Ditto on Buy.com=badguys,, I emailed them about shipping to FPO and was told it would be implemented soon. That was over 2 years ago. Nice of them to keep emailing their specials even when I've removed myself from their list a couple of times.
