These sale prices are even lower than the cost of a keyboard with the student discount from daskeyboard.com. This is the lowest price I have ever seen them.

will let you know how the silent is... no markings on keys... my kid wants it for his birthday... should be interesting...

Great prices on these. The I have a professional silent and I love it. A lot of people complain about the gloss finish, but I truthfully haven't notice it smudge much at all (I mean, if you are typing correctly you pretty much never touch the gloss anyway!).

Are these lightyears ahead of the Logitech keyboards or can I go with the former and save a few bucks. Also, are they heavy?

They're mechanical keyboards, which means each key is responsible for triggering a single switch (if you've ever typed on an old IBM keyboard, you'll know the feeling). As far as I know, Logitech only makes membrane keyboards, where each key pushes through a plastic membrane to create a contact point between electrodes. You can read more about the technology of mechanical keyboards here. Most people agree that mechanical keyboards feel nicer to type on, but they're also significantly more expensive than membrane keyboards. It's a matter of personal preference.

its not silent at all, its just less noisier than a typical crazy loud mechanical keyboard 😀

I wasn't a big fan of the glossy finish on my Das, seemed to scratch really easily, far easier than glossy laptops or any other glossy products I've used, almost seemed like they cheaped out and put a really thin/crappy clear coat on it or something. And I had problems with the lettering on the keys starting to fade after only like a couple weeks of use, which is just unacceptable considering the price, if you invest in a keyboard like this you want it to last and not be worn out after only a month. I loved the built in USB hub, though, very handy. But ended up returning the Das and getting a Filco instead, better mechanical keyboard IMO (Leopold keyboards also look nice and are like $100 normally, although I haven't used one before). But just my experiences, tons of people also love their Das keyboards and if you've been wanting one this is a great deal.

Brown is over-rated, Get the BLUES.

When you type fast, the browns feel exactly like the RED. It's not nearly as tactile as the Blues

You should use a lens cloth, the kind for your glasses. 😀

The main noise coming from mechanical keyboards is the bottom out noise.

I recommend getting the o-rings to put on the stems.

Do NOT get those foam/rubber pads, they're not nearly as good as the o-rings. 😱

To each his own...I LOVE my browns and can't stand blues...too clicky for me. Using this DAS at work, and I highly recommend it.

You may want to consider the coolermaster storm quickfire. It's a mechanical keyboard that uses cherry mx blue switches for $80. I bought it because it was the cheapest mechanical keyboard microcenter had in stock and imo, felt the best to me. I've been using it for 3 or 4 months now and I've really enjoyed it.
