I had $120 in cash back in my Discover account (1% of purchases)
They have a list of retailers that give you double cash back if you get merhandise certificates. I chose Sharper Image.
They mailed me the certificates, and I ordered the Quadra Ionic Breeze from sharperimage.com refurbished.

Refurb Quadra Ionic Breeze $194.97 (after $15 off code found on chubbybillfold)
Tax $14.97
Shipping $18.95
Total Certificates Used ($240.00)

I still have $11.11 in certificates to use. Not bad for a product that retails for $349 and no money spent out of pocket. Gotta love Discover cash back!

You spent $120. That isn't "free." Discover cash back is real money. Not to say that this isn't a good deal (no opinion) but it ain't free.

What you do is pay for everything with it, a lot of times you can even pay your utiilies and such online with a Discover card. Gotta love the cash back.

if you check out the Citicard Dividend card, it's a better program. It's only 1% back but on all purchases, unlike the Discover card where certain places gives you different amounts. The Citicard sends you a $100 check everytime your cashback gets up to $100. It's probably a better deal than the Discover card.

My Discover card is pretty wack. Spend $0-$1499 get 0.25% cash back, $1500-$2999 get 0.5% cash back, $3000+ is 1%. It's the last card in my wallet i'll ever use.

I got one of these sharper image certificates using Discovercard and I was very unhappy with it because the back of it said "Not valid with any other coupons, discounts, or promotions." And since they are always doing 20% off promotions and free shipping I was kind of pissed off because I would have been better off just getting the $20 credited to my discovercard balance instead of getting the $40 certificate that I can't use with the promotions.

But you say you were able to do it with a 15% off coupon? It let you do this online???

I have discover card classic. It's 1% on everything and some place is more. But anyway, they do send me stuff like this too. But usually I would just ask them to credit it back into my account. Why use cash when credit card will give U 1% back??? That is like 1% discount on everything you buy.

Now I am testing out that Chase Stock Back credit card. It too say 1% on everything and more on other stuff. But the diff if I remember correctly is they have no limit as too how much U have in your "1%" back. Another thing is this card is Mastercard. So it's more widely except then Discover.

GM card was my worst experience. 5% credit back. But the stuff they limit U to spend on that 5% you earn are extremely expensive even including that 5%. I had enough and canceled them. I earn like thousand of credit, just can't use them. :|

I bought online with the $15 off coupon. You can choose for Discover to send you checks when you reach a certain level cash back, but I kind of like doubling the cash back. The list of partners that accept the 2x back is not bad.

the problem with the citicard is that they now limit you to $300 back for the year (if i recall correctly). i liked it when it was a straight 1% (originally 2%) credit to your next statement.

How exactly is this "free"? You built up the money in your cash-back account.... isn't this a deal that pretty much just applies to you?

You can get a free 68" plasma TV if you have $18,000 in Amazon.com gift certificates.
