Free "Sat 'C' LNB" from DirecTV

Please forgive me if this is old news, but for those who are interested in receiving Showime in HD from DirecTV (channel 543), DirecTV will send you the SAT-C-UPGRADE KIT for FREE! This is the "middle" LNB that fits between the two standard LNB's in a dual LNB, eliptical dish. All you have to pay for is about $9.00 for FedEX ground shipping.

Normally, you'll pay about $50.00 for this upgrade if you go to a retail electronics store.

Just call DirecTV @ 1800-Directv and ask for the "SELF INSTALL" version of the "SAT-C-UPGRADE KIT".

BE CAREFUL! If the sales person says you have to upgrade your subscription in order to get the free upgrade - make sure you ask again for the SELF INSTALL version. It may take a little persistance - it's apparent that they've been told to try and SELL the subsciption upgrade BEFORE agreeing to the free LNB, but don't believe it.

Also, don't believe it if they insist that it must be professionally installed (for $49.00), unless of course you want them to do this for you. It takes a whopping 10 min to do if you are savvy with the equipment.

I have the elip dish and would mind the "C" LNB. You said it was for showtime HD reception. If you don't subscribe to showtime HD are there any other benefits to the LNB?

You need an HDTV and decoder to get HD content. If you subscribe to HBO or Showtime, they each have a single FREE hdtv station. HBO HD is 509 & Showtime HD is 543 in my neck of the woods.

I am sure that thy will check the equipment that you currently have activated. I do not think that you will get it if you don't have HDTV equipment subbed. Testers beware.

I'm confused. I have a DTC100 that I use strickly for OTA, but I thought DirecTV's HD stuff was on the 119 sat? Or is just Showtime HD on the 110? Do you need to be a subscriber of Showtime to get the LNB or just DirecTV?
