Free (+S/H) Arcade Game Classics - Over 3500 Games Included

I was looking for a way to play some of the older arcade games on my computer after watching a special on it on TV. I stumbled onto a website called Tombstone. They offer a service where for the price of the CDs and shipping (usually $8.50), you get 7 CDs full of all available classic arcade games like Centiped, Galaga, Mortal Kombat (all versions) and more. The CDs also include all the pictures of the old cabinets and all available screenshots.

If you prefer you can actually send the burner the CDs and the shipping cost and they will burn for you. I opted for paying the fee via Paypal, it was quicker.

I used a new burner named Chris and I had my CDs in a few days. I recommend this to any of you that spend to much time reading Hot Deal forums and spending your money.

Geez, why don't I just download MAME and find some roms for FREE?!

Ingenious!

What they are offering is M.A.M.E. (which is Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) its free, you can download it.

You can also find free download sites to get the mame roms (the actual ROM code from old stripped arcade machines)

Now, of course , the bad part is, you arent supposed to re-distribute any of these "roms" since they are copyrighted code (such as current software is)

Mame rocks!!! Its a blast to play Crazy Climber and all the old arcade games I grew up with. And since they are the original code, it is the *exact* game I used to pay for.

There is almost 3800 different ROMs... that would take some time. This is just a way to get they all at once at a very reasonable price...

The way I understand it, as long as you do not profit from the distribution, they is no problems. That is why you can find ROMs for download.

M.A.M.E is cool. But nothing beats the actual full-size game sitting inside your house. I have a Ms. Pac Man in my living room. I get comments everytime someone comes over and sees it OR I move and people see it being loaded/unloaded at each location.

A lot of full-size games can be picked up relatively cheap at coin-op auctions. I believe there is one this saturday in Pennsauken, NJ, but I'm not positive. My father-in-law used to go all the time, buy games, then resell them to friends, co-workers, etc. after he cleaned them up a little. (In most cases, everything is fine, except the game is too old to make any money in an arcade anymore) You can get some nice deals, but the real classics such as Pac Man, Asteroids, Frogger, etc. go to collectors for avg $250+. I have seem games picked up for as little as $25, though, so you just have to go and see what you can find.

This might have been slightly OT to the forum, but it seemed like it had some relevance to this thread, so I hope no one is offended...

<< 3500 games wow savesa lot of time its worth the 8bucks or whatever. >>

I seriously doubt you'll have the time to play all of them, though. I went on a downloading binge (via EASYNEWS) and got all of the roms for the current version of MAME. Needless to say, that was a big mistake. I should've just gotten the roms for the games I wanted to play. Having 100 varieties of Japanese Mahjongg games is just stupid. 😱

It's interesting, however, to see some of the crazy games that people have put out in the arcades. Miss World Nude '96 was deleted pretty quickly after I discovered it. 🙂

MAME is great, get it at www.mame.net
roms can be dowloaded for free from several sites as needed who needs 3800 roms?
Tombstone is a good deal if you get them, but some people report getting ripped off.
Check the forums at
www.arcadecontrols.speedhost.com
This is also where you can learn how to build/convert a cabinet and wire real arcade controls to a pc for a real arcade experience!

Am I the only one who saves all MAME roms (except one of course)? 😉 That's 4G roms plus 41M samples.

You can find places to download roms, just as you can find places to download Office XP. But it does not mean they are legal.
