Free remote access software (for use over Internet)?

TeamViewer throws 'you must buy' type warnings to regular free users.

I've noticed a few solutions of the VNC variety but the last time I used VNC its sessions were completely unencrypted which isn't ideal.

Hmm, not from where I sit. Teamviewer is the one to beat. I think there is a little message that pops up at the end of a session, but that's all I recall. It has done everything I need thus far.

UltraVNC does have encryption plugin

Haven't touched UltraVNC for a long time, so don't have recent experience.

I use TeamViewer personally many many years and I don't care the popup message.

Generally teamviewer is free for personal use.
However they have been known to be somewhat aggressive with flagging systems/accounts as commercial use.
If you use it for personal, write to their support and they should be able to turn de-flag your account.
