I'm using this modem. I will be buying a different one anytime (trying to decide which). I had a Creative 56k but it was ISA and so I couldn't use it in my new system. I got this same modem from but paid $9.99 for it. It does the job and it a great deal for that price or for free but I don't think you'll be happy with it. I have TWEAK DUN running and I can only get a max connection of 44,000bps. For the money you can't beat it...but if you can afford more don't waste your time.

This modem is a pain in the butt to install - the cd that comes with it has about 20 different drivers on it and they don't tell you which one to use... I finally got it working after about 2 hrs of screwing around.

I went back to OM and took a closer look. On the box it says minimum system requirements are Pentium 233 with MMX. I was going to get it for an old Dell P100 that currently has a 28.8 modem. Does anyone know if this thing will even work with a Pentium 100 or will the connect speed just be slower than 56K?

You won't want to try using that modem on your P100 All these new cheap modems are winmodems and if you have a pretty slow computer it'll just bog you way down and slow down your connection. It sucks but, with older components you kind of have to pay more for a modem.

Thanks for the advice. I did a little research and found the same answer. Where I live I may not be able to do much better than 28.8 anyway.
