Free pc to phone calls?

Whats the best free service for pc to phone calls?

I'm sure theres none left. I looked hi and lo about...5 or 6 months ago. Nada one to be found.....

On a side note, how hard would it be to just make a program to do it? I dont mean client wise, but what "server side" stuff would it take. At some point someone is paying to convert from IP to voice, and I wonder where it is, otherwise someone would have coded a cimple PC Calling program a LONG time ago (Much like Winamp or any other peice of free/share ware)

It's not a matter of software. That's easy.

The part that gets tricky(and costs money) is the tie-in to the regular phone network. It takes hardware.

Anyone ever use PACKET8 voip service? for 20 bux a month, unlimited calling...sounds like a good deal since im paying 17 a month for just unlimtied local?!?...
