Well I got Blue Shift...and it does NOT require the original Half-Life (says so right on the box). Also, it includes the FULL Opposing Force game (single and multi-player), which is why you get a $10 rebate if you already have the Opposing Force expansion (send in rebate form plus Opposing Force CD).

tangent1138:
Again you state that it doesnt contain Opposing force. You are wrong. Blue shift DOES Contain the full version of opposing force, including all single player aspects and more.

People have been debating back and forth on what Blue Shift contains. Here is what I have found so far.

Blue Shift contains:

-Opposing Force Single Player (haven't tried multiplayer)
-Blue Shift Single Player and Multiplayer
-Updates to high resolution HL, OF, and Blue Shift models

"Also includes Half-Life: Opposing Force
The full version of Half-Life: Opposing Force, including all its single and multiplayer modes, is included and compatible with the upgraded content. "

I used to be awesome at half life, when I first played counterstrike, I hated it. Now that my friends have gotten me to play it a lot, I love it. I actually bought the game even though its a free download. (sometimes I do silly things like that to help support things I like, so that more will come out.)

Just to let you guys know. Counter-strike is the most popular online game out there right now. IMO it's a great game cuz it involves teamwork. The next version of CS will include voice chat (version 1.2) and is due out around the end of month.

LEt me wrap up the conclusion:

If I bought Blue Shift, I could also get counterstrike for free download, right? If so, I will run to bb today!

I just got back from best buy,(so cal) they had plenty of the blue shift and half life games, but none of the Gunman (freebe). I asked them to check the computer inventory and it showed 12. I finally got someone to go in back an pull one out of the box for me. The ad says limited quantities and no rain checks, but they were willing to give me a rain check if they couldn't find me one.

rlotharius, doesn't the voice communication come in the HL 1.1.0.7 patch? It's going to be availiable in all mods.

I have a question about Blue Shift: Can it run mods, or do I need the full Half Life to do that? I already own a copy of HL, but I need another so my bro and I can play TFC and CS at the same time.

Counter-Strike is the sole reason why Half Life is even updated anymore. TFC sucks because its aiming system cannot even come close to compairing to CS's realism. CS does suffer from a lot of cheaters(asus) and campers, but www.punkbuster.com handles the cheating problem. In my opinion, nothin even touches CS, and its worth the $20 to buy Half Life, then download the mod for free. www.counter-strike.net
This deal is nice and I would recommend everyone to buy it. Because even the single player game set standards for fps games that come out now.

The thing I really want is CounterStrike and I don't have HF.

Can i play CS if i buy CS alone, w/o buying HL?

Also, if i buy BS, would i be able to download CS?
b/c that would be the best deal then..

Shining4Ev, you could just buy CS, but you could get the full HL and then just download CS, that way not only would have CS, but also Half Life. The only reason not to do this would be if you have dialup, but you'll still have to d/l patches.
I can't fully agree with CybaHell, as I enjoy both TFC and CS. Variety is a good thing. He is right that there are a lot of cheaters, but programs like Punkbuster seem like an easy way to slip in some more spyware. And I don't see how camping is always bad. ;) Its part of the game.

Once again, does anyone know if you can play mods with Blue Shift, or will you need another copy of Half Life to do that?

I was so stupid I bought CS instead of HL. (I didn't know there's a free mod download).

It's from Armageddon. You know, the part where they're trying to get off of the asteroid, and the Russian decides to take fixing the space shuttle into his own hands? :)

Can you run mods on that standalone CS copy, CyberTiger?

For all the Half-Life fans don't forget to check out the excellent add-ons at planethalflife.com/manke/. If you subsrcibe to PCGAMER look for the latest add-on from Neil Manke in your June 2001 issue featuring " They Hunger 3- Rude Awakening ". This is another superb piece of game designing from one of the best. BTW, all three of the " They Hunger " series are available for download at that site.
