free OSS sound drivers?

I'm in a bind - my sound card, based on an ALS4000, has no linux driver. OSS supports it, but since when do I have to shell out $20 (I assume that is USD) for drivers for something I bought? I emailed Avance, but the person who replied said to contact another person - he hasn't responded yet (2 days ago). Any ideas of how to get the card working without paying (for $20 I could probably get a supported card!)

since AFAIK there are no opensource drivers you could buy the drivers or (my preference) by a card that has open drivers and not have to worry about it again

I would just go to Compgeeks and buy a cheap soundblaster 16 or something compatible.

well, I'll stick with the OSS trial version for now... maybe get a new card later.
