Very usefull though and double entry accounting is a proven method to avoid human error.
Another thing along those lines would be Turbocash, which recently went GPL. Very well established, but not very common in the U.S. More for medium sized business stuff, I guess.
Kmymoney, for the KDE desktop, is one that is designed for a simplier personal finance standpoint.

I don't actually use any of this stuff.. Although I probably am going to try out gnucash in a while to help get things straightenned out.
Unforunately most are going to be targetting Linux users. Maybe grisbi. There are others, but I don't know much about all of them.
Check out Freshmeat.net for open source software database. Lots of software and descriptions and such. Mostly targetting Linux again, but it will tell you if they have Windows versions. Just be sure that whatever you've choose they've done updates recently, like in the past year or so. Don't want to start in with a dead project...
