*Free* Oracle Database 10g Express Edition

Actually, most of the Oracle database products are free. They are between 450-650 MB, so will take a while to download! The following link is for Enterprise 10g on Win32 platform:

Lest someone overlook the obvious, these are for development only. You can't go run an ebay with these products; that would require paying license fees. But kudos to Oracle to allow these direct downloads. I remember once having to go through a lengthly registration process just to access online help. Thank god I don't use Oracle regularly.

I dont think that Express Edition is "development" only. The way i read " free to develop, deploy, and distribute" means to me that i can use it in a production enviornment. They way they get you is in that you cant run anything serious because of the small size of memory (1 gig) and data storage (4GB) that is allowed.

I have been using Oracle 9i (Free download) for a PL/SQL programming class that I'm in. Gotta love the freeness.

is this something i could install on a shared webserver, or would i need a dedicated server to run this?

It does eat a lot of system resources, but for a relatively low traffic server, you should be OK (unless the machine is really old and lacking RAM). I'd recommend at least 1GB.
