Hey, look, sometimes those intrusive advertisements on websites bring good things. Today I clicked on one that advertised a free nick(it) graphic t-shirt. (nick(it) is some sort of UK/modern fashion line available at JC Penney stores.) Following the link to find the catch, I was surprised to find that I only needed to sign up for the mailing list.

Just fill that out, and there'll be a pop-up window with a printable coupon. The coupon's fine print says it will be available on the website until Sept 23rd, but it can be redeemed until Oct 9. Fine print also says no purchase necessary.

(That said....I went in with the intention of getting the free tee, plus maybe something else so I wouldn't seem like a total mooch....and left with a $140 bill. Along with the tee, I also got some dress socks, a zip-up dual-zipper hoodie, two casual blazers, and a leather-ish motorcycle jacket. Each of those four coats/jackets were on sale for only $30.)

The clerk said she needed to call over the manager, but he knew what it was immediately, apologizing for not informing her about the promo yet. The coupon is a terrible GIF image print out; it wouldn't scan. They had to enter it manually. If they have any problem getting the computer to take it, let them know they should leave off the letters at the beginning.

EDIT: Well, if you read this far... [ http://f.jcpenneyem.com/s/2/95827765/couponpage3.html]Here's the direct link to the pop-up window ]

Scroll down to the bottom of the page in the first link. There's a Store Locator button that will open a pop-up window. The eligible JCP stores are listed -- apparently it's not a valid offer at all of their stores.

I did this on Fri at the JCP at Vallco Fashion Park in Cupertino, CA and it was a slam dunk. One cashier already knew about punching in the code. The shirts are marked $26 but that store had them on sale for $14.95. They have lots of different styles and sizes to choose from.

You're from Cupertino, CA also? Wow.

I went to Vallco at night ~8:30 PM and I got to JCP. I asked them where the Nick(it) t-shirst were and they pointed me to it. As I was browsing with my friend, another lady with a slickdeals coupon came up and started browsing. Just then the 2 of the JCP employees we asked earlier came by and said "Ok, we're taking this down." They let us grab our shirts and took it all down.

So basically, Cupertino, CA = deal dead.

I'm away at college right now, and I emailed my mom the link to the coupon in case she was shopping at Penney's anyway. Pretty much all of the tees have some kind of sexual innuendo on them. Despite her being very conservative and old-fashioned, something tells me she wouldn't get most of them anyway. That said, I don't really go for those "clever saying" t-shirts that are so popular these days. I had a hard time finding a tee I actually wanted, but free is free, so I picked one out anyway.
