It doesn't matter how small they are.
I never have a diamond.
I think i'm going to give to my gf just for fun.
0.01 is really small.
But then only 10% chance of getting a 0.05 ones.

Spiffy. Wonder how small .01ct is. Probably barely visible to the human eye. But hey! It's free.
Wish I could say the same for my fiancee's engagement and now wedding ring. $$$$ :p

If you old enough to have a watch before the quartz ones, you might have owned a diamond before. Those old hand-wind watches used diamond. And then those diamond point glass cutters.

Round diamond prices/per ct "Russian top cuts"
Round Diamonds, 0.02 - 0.07 Carats (1.25-2.7mm)

VS1-2 "E-F" (top quality: $1200 Pct, or $12/point

SI1-2 "G-H" (medium quality: $1000 Pct, or $10/point

Crap that we would get: ?? Pct

1 carat has 100 "points", so .01 carat is 1 point. If you got the 5 point diamond and it was medium quality and cut, it would be worth approx $50 retail. The 1 point diamond falls into a size range so would be less per carat. It would probably retail $5-$8.

These prices assume that the stone is good quality and is cut. I never got on the website, so I don't know. If they are not cut they are worth much, much less.

Get out your ruler and see how big 1mm is, and you have your approximate diamond size!

My aunt and uncle own a jewelery store and I used to see these small diamonds all the time. They are small enough for you to lose if you are not careful. They are like the size of a few grains of salt.

SinMen,

Old watches use rubies, not diamonds, and most of them for many years have been synthetic. Synthetic is chemically identical to real. Cheap synthetics don't have proper crystal structure, but are dirt cheap. Really high quality synthetic crystalline rubies are still a few hundred dollars a carat when cut. That's still a better deal than $5000-$10000 a carat for the equivalent quality natural stone!

Here is the Hot Deal: If you want to really impress the gf (or if you want a cool paperweight), buy a 175 carat split-boule (split-rod) of pure ruby for $.12 per carat, or $21. http://www.rockpeddler.com/pga.htm

You can get full 400 carat rods at some places, but once you give the gf a 400 carat solid ruby rod, she might not have any use left for you!

Maybe if I superglue a bunch of them together I'll get a 1 ct, sell it on the street to some unsuspecting sucker and take the money and buy myslef a real one!!

Rhody,

Interesting info, went to look at the Rubies but couldn't find them on that site, just quartz & stuff. Please provide a direct link if you can find one... would make a great gag gift for the gf, especially if i can find a way of mounting one to a ring.

Rhody,
Quality watches were using diamonds and sapphires. The ruby that you are referring to is Alumina, I think.

Not to crap on the deal, but .05 carat diamond is fairly worthless.....the .25 sent listing fee on E bay is more than these things are worth.....I also definitely would not give one of these to your girlfriend either, not if you want her to remain your girlfriend...she might take it as an insult....:)

I didn't get any kind of confirmation page when I hit submit; was it just me? I'd expect something telling me that my request went through.
