This thread is for posting bands you know of who have quality music available for free. We'll see how it goes; I'll start it off.

I just found this guy Josh Woodward; all his music is free, and so far as I'm listening so good-- it's not crap like you expect from free artists. He sounds a bit like Jack Johnson; music is more upbeat; lots of acoustic. I'm listening to his Crawford Street album right now.

Seeing as his 5 albums total a third of a GB, I've made a torrent to save him the bandwidth costs: Text
His website here: Text

BTW, by free I mean legally free.

I got a CD from a band called the Coral for free. I work for the radio station at my school, and the record labels send us all their new cds. If we like it, we add it to our collection and if we don't it gets tossed. Most of the stuff we reject for our collection is crap that we just throw out, but I thought this band was pretty good so I took it. It's got some really catchy tracks.

This probably isn't what you meant by free music though.

A few that I've been listening to lately

JT Bruce (prog metal)
she (house, electronica, chiptune)

jamendo.com is a pretty cool site with a lot of Creative Commons music. You'd be surprised, even though it's free you can find some real gems. Unfortunately a lot of people equate free music with bad.

edit: And thanks for the torrent soccerballtux, will have to check it out. :)

You can now D/L the 'U2' EP (all vinyl copies were ordered destroyed in a lawsuit) & theres some other free D/Ls too.

Aural Innovations SpaceRock Radio

Several radio shows available for free, stream or D/L. It's only 128kbps but it's more as an introduction to some new music you may have never heard.
