Sweet. Gonna give it a go.

Ok, WTF. I tried to install this program and it's asking me to uninstall AntiVir 1st. :|

I have my own domain name I've used for my email address for years. Strangely, I'm not getting their activation code email. However, I was able to get it via Gmail and Hotmail. I've checked spam filtering, but it doesn't appear there either. Any ideas?

anyone know if this is better than Macafee? I get the whole Macafee suite free from Comcast (anti virus, firewall, privacy). I think they are resouce hogs, so I wouldn't mind replacing them with this if I knew it was better and used less resources.

Kaspersky is arguably the best AV solution out there. I personally wouldn't run anything from McAfee (or Norton non-enterprise), but that's just me. A little searching on AV reviews will turn up info on Kaspersky being one of the top apps across the board.

Anyone tried it on windows2000?I installed it twice and after the reboot it wouldn't (computer)do anything almost as if keyboard was dead when I did ctrl, alt & del to let me login...thanks for my backups really wasn't a big deal but anyone else have it happen?

I uninstalled nav2002 and avg 7.1 on my win2000 sp3 box and installed this last night with no problems.

NEVER HAVE MORE THAN 1 AV INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME

I picked up a real Kaspersky license for $20 last night 🙂 I don't trust AOL.

- Yeah, if you don't mind having one of the worst detection rates possible. There is no good alternative to Kaspersky, it is simply the best.

While Kaspersky probably has the best detection rates, it is kinda slow and somewhat of a resource hog. I installed 300 on a friend's machine, and I had to disable the web scanning totally because it was slowing down the internet so much it was timing out pages. And yes I did try playing with the web scan options before totally turning it off.

Yea that would be the trade-off.

But it's better to have at least have the ability to scan better eh?

The license is also exclusive to this product. The activation key you receive when signing up through the AOL website works ONLY in AOL Active Security Shield.

So I have to install AOL active security sheild to use this?

Don't worry, AOL still completely sucks. I signed up for their email to use as a throw away account, then went and downloaded the anti-virus.

But what's this? I log in to the mail account and it take 10 minutes (over broadband) to get into the email, and they haven't sent me the key. So I click refresh and get:

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at welcome.mail.aol.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Where can you get it for $20 ?

how does this compare with CA EZ trust? i currently use mcafee (it's included for free with my DSL subscription) but i imagine there are better utilities out there. I may stick with mcafee, as they give me a free firewall as well, but i don't really need a firewall as i run through a router, right? please, throw some advice my way.

"how does this compare with CA EZ trust?"
- Kaspersky is the top rated in detection rates of all AV in the entire world.

"but i don't really need a firewall as i run through a router, right?"
- Your router only blocks certain things. It is always safer to have a software based firewall on top of the router.

Here's one indepent Antivirus review: http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=72&mnu=72

Kaspersky 99.46%
Mcafee 94.8%
ETrust 47.84%

Here's another: (On-demand comparative February 2006) http://www.av-comparatives.org/index.ht...paratives.org/seiten/comparatives.html

If you have a router a software firewall is recommended in some cases but is purely optional. I don't use them on my home or business pc's. However get rid of the McAfee bloatware and try Comodo or Kerio instead.

Where is the code I am supposed to get. All I am getting in my email is a message that says this. Been there and registered and downloaded but no code, unless I am missing something.

www.activevirusshield.com to register.
Thank you for registering for Active Virus Shield!
