At the Smithsonian folk life festival in Washington, DC right now, they have a Scotland exhibit. One of the exhibitors is Glenfidditch, and they brought over half a dozen casks of aging scotch. No drinking permitted, but they would lift the cork bung and let you sniff the hole. Nice smells.

They do these "private events" in chicago all the time. I'm constantly getting spam about it. I signed up once but never went, I think they had 3-4 of them that week, all in different locations downtown.

I actually went to one and it's pretty sweet. If it says "Sorry, there are no events currently scheduled in your area.", don't bother filling out the form to be notified when they're coming to your city because they dont' email you - at least I didn't get any. You have to just keep going back to the site and keep checking to see if they're coming.

Basically, there's a bunch of hors'doeurves (chips and dip, crackers, cheese blocks, fruit, some meat wrapped in bacon, etc.) and johnnie walker scotch (~5 different drinks) at the bar. You'll wind up sitting with strangers and eat/drink for about 30 minutes. Then they take you to a presentation room where they give a 20 minute presentaiton of the history of Johnnie Walker scotch, and sample about 5 shots of different JW scotch.

Oh, and if you can't handle all the alcohol, they'll get a cab for you
