Hey guys, I just received an e-mail from the Netbeans Mailing List. For anyone who're not familiar with Netbeans, Netbeans is a Java IDE.

Anyway, there will be a free Java Intro Programming Online Boot Camp that will begin from the week of 1-16-06 till the week of 2-20-06. The instructor of this course is Sang Shin from Sun Microsystems, Inc.

This will be a great learning opportunity for fellow ATOT members who would like to learn the basics of Java.

This is pretty interesting. Having taught C++, my gut says that an online programming course might not be very effective. A self-paced offering definitely might be. People absorb this information at different rates, and will get hung up on points of widely varying complexity. But on second thought, I'm thinking that if the instructor made good use of interaction tools there really isn't anything you need to do as moderator that you can't accomplish online.

I think the basics of Java can be self-taught easily.

The course that I'm interested is the Advanced J2EE Programming that will be offered for free online sometime 2006.

I'm interested :)

Thanks for posting this. I think I know a lot of what is to be covered, but I have minimal experience with Java and I think it'll be good for me.
