So how many times have your "friends" asked you to take part in this deal? Was just asked twice today alone..and no matter how many times I said no they kept on persisting. Blagh.

And no, Anandtech trolls don't count :Þ

Hey, at least it wasn't beer. 😛

I warned my friends of this long before they stumbled across it. The ones that are stupid enough to fall for it anyway.

If they are a good friend, why not help one of them out. There is usually an option that doesn't cost anything to fulfill.

Congrats, you've helped a corporation screw people over in the form of an MLM just on this side of legality. If I were you I'd take the "stupid" designation; it beats the alternative: "immoral spam-whore."

Nothing is free. This is true of the offers you have to complete. Any of the ones that don't have any out-and-out fees usually ding your credit score.

How does giving your check card # to fax.com or whatever and then ending the promotion after a week hurt your credit score? I know you're giving them personal info, which makes it less than free, but some people think it's worth it.

I have never seen such an offer that didn't require some kind of fee -- albeit low -- for the "trial" period. At least for this "free" iPod nonsense. The place I got my XBox, yeah, a few of those, but what you got in return was almost nonexistant.

The offers I'm talking about are the "refinance your car" or "enquire about a new mortgage" offers. A few of those can screw your credit over bad.
