Free Ipod!

Lots of free iPod threads being started by new members. Don't you think that it's an existing member who's creating new accounts to spam the forum? Why would other people think of spamming AT Forums in the first place?

I'd say at least 100 posts.

Maybe ban all threads with the word "free" and "ipod" from ever being created?
Then what will all those people offering free shipping for their iPod do in the FS/T forum?

I've seen some newbies do that in 2-3 days. Plus you would then have a lot of people neffing just to get the required 100 posts so they could post their scam thread.

Easy. Add "freeipod" to the list of banned words, then "Free shipping on my iPod" won't get caught, but "www.freeipods.com/referrer.php?myownstupidreferrallink" will get blocked.

but the link will not work.

Exactly. Newbies won't know that it's the link that is being filtered.

Of course that won't stop those using their own domains, but it can at least try.

Confused

WTF is an N'SYNC fan board doing at #20???

The N'SYNC fans are wondering why a computer hardware board is at 13.

The computer hardware board... being hosted on... and accessed by... computer hardware? 😕

(Not known if sarcasm was involved, assuming it was)

i say let em make that first post and then ban em maybe ban thier ip or something
if you make em reply 100 or even 500 times they will. they may even build a virtual machine to do it and we all would have to suffer from 100s of bogus comments instead of just one post

yeah, it seems like a good idea on first thought.
but...some people lurk and post for technical help. it would be a shame to demand they post a certain number just to ask a question.
maybe new threads in OT should require that sort of thing.

Has anyone ever thought of just ignoring all of these posts? I realize there have been a lot lately, in many of the forums, but for every 1 of these posts there are dozens of replies saying "die spammer die!" or something similar. If everyone just ignored them, they could be locked and deleted at the moderator's leisure, it would cut down on the thread being constantly being brought to the top, and maybe, if no one gave them attention, they would eventually go away. Just a thought.

Hmm, lots of pros and cons in proposed solutions.

Vetteguy: Yah, we could ignore those topics. I personally don't reply to them, but others are attracted like moths and keep bumping spam threads with their replies. Furthermore, if I'm correct and it's AT forum veterans who create new profiles just to spam, then I think something should be done to them.

how about taking advantage of the freeipod? like start lines, because this is real, you really do get a free ipod if you get 5 referals that sign up for complete offer, thats easy, just sign up for aol then cancel =)
