I think its a good idea. Notebooks4Free pays out $1000 for 18 referrals - wouldn't be hard at all if a community was serious about a fundraiser.

Assumming it's still the usual "sign up then cancel" routine, you're scamming the companies who are paying out the referral fee. It doesn't matter whether you're robbing them for charity or personal gain.

Those companies sign up expecting 90% to just want the credit and cancel. It's a calculated risk. Nothing wrong about it.
