started a new job a couple of weeks ago for an IT consulting firm, and they had a christmas party last friday...i didnt have a sitter for mah kids, so i couldnt go

the office manager was coming into town today, and asked if she could meet me to bring me my christmas present since i couldnt make the party. i got a small bonus check (ive only been there 2 weeks, so i didnt expect anything) and an ipad wifi 32gb

things is...i really dont even feel like opening it. i dont have apple stuff and really dont want to start using any of it when i already have android stuff and have apps paid for and have everything set up. i could let the kids use it...but thats a hell of a toy.

how much of a dick would it make me to sell it and get a transformer prime? its not that im not grateful--its an awesome gift to give to your employees, especially ones that have only been there 2 weeks... i just have zero interest in opening it and even turning it on.

Its yours and you really don't have any personal obligation to your employer regarding a gift.
Sell it.

I don't see how they would find out unless you say something.

Seriously, at least change your avatar for the thread. pffft.

(I wouldn't worry about selling it...really nice gift though!)

It's fine to sell it but unethical to let anyone in the office to know you're selling it.

Do the right thing...cash in and stfu. :p

Do whatever you want... Is it a 1 or a 2? Less "remorse" if 1, in fact, as a nerd you should be enraged that she bought you (moreso) outdated shit.

No problem at all until the boss has a job for you that requires the ipad. After 2 weeks they finally tell you it is a tool to use at work. The rest of the employees will get a good laugh out of it.

Will you need it for your job? Maybe he's giving you the item to make your job / life easier.

Itd be easier on me to have the prime since i already have android apps paid for. all employees already have company laptops. i dont really need anything else for work (except patch cables, christ, youd think theyd have a box of those somewhere)

its a ipad2 32gb. so not only did they get us all ipads...they didnt get the entry level model. i think the company has 20 or 25 people, something like that.

Apparently the economy isn't bad everywhere. That's a hell of a gift.

yeah, it really is. i mean im replacing a guy who got fired so they may have had them already, but i even got a bonus check. it was a small one, but as a new guy i expected nothing, so really it was pretty awesome of the company all around.

At the very least send a thank you card.

i dont use paper

i sent a thank you email to them both already.

so...i think im going to fs/t now. :D

Just keep it. I have a transformer and the lack of app support makes me wish I had just spent more and gotten an iPad. There's nothing wrong with having android and ios devices.

lack of app support? ive got a rooted nook color and i cant recall having any issues finding any apps i wanted. i can get to amazon, remote desktop my pcs, remote control windows media player on a pc, edit office documents, get on the interwebs and facebook...what do you want to do on a tablet that android didnt satisfy?

its not that theres something wrong...its that it would just be a huge version of my phone, and i love my android phone. hell, i wouldnt have thought of getting a transformer, i like my nook color, but its admittedly on the slow side for a tablet.
