Here's the authentic scoop on that "home theater kit." I just received my latest order from Etronics.com on Monday: I bought a Sony subwoofer and center speaker, and took advantage of the free Allegro kit offer. Don't get your hopes up, scoreadeal. What it is, is a "home theater care kit," consisting of cleaning devices for components typical of a home theater system: a wet/dry VHS head cleaning cassette, an audio cassette head cleaning tape, a CD/DVD disk cleaning thingy, and a CD/DVD lens cleaning compact disk. It's a nice kit, but there are no speakers or wires or anything for creating a home theater system. Looks to be worth maybe $15 US.
FYI, I've made three purchases from Etronics in the last six months (a car AM/FM/cassette system, a DVD player, and these two speakers to upgrade our home theater audio). I am very pleased with these people. Web site layout, product selection and info, price, shipping, packaging, and product quality are all first rate. I live on the West Coast, they're in or near NYC, and still I'll keep going to them for electronics buys because of my good experience with them. (OK, UPS ground shipping takes about a week . . .)
BTW, I now have two of these Allegro kits--that's more cleaning stuff than even the filthiest of us can ever use up!
