This is pretty funny. I saw these things in a tupperware today and it looked like moldy bread. I asked if it was such bread and my co-worker told me no, that they were in fact King Cakes from Mardi Gras. The mold is actually the colored sugar.

For Mardi Gras newbies, King Cakes are traditionally served at parties and contain a small plastic baby. Tradition is that whoever eats the piece of cake with the baby is supposed to throw the party the next year...the sugar on the top is usually colored purple, yellow and green, Mardi Gras colors...
