There are satellites that transmit GPS data. Your GPS receives that data and figures out where you are. There is no data leaving your GPS. All the rest of the data like speed and direction and such is figured out by where you are and what time you get there. All the map data is stored in the unit.

looks like the way they are doing this has changed since i got mine. after i got mine, my mother in law decided to apply. she applied on august 2nd, got card on 6th, made purchase on 7th, and then today she got an email saying the item had shipped from amazon, gave a ups tracking #, and said it could take upto 10 days to be delivered. a lot faster than the 5 weeks i waited.

I almost missed this great deal. Signed up for it today. I can use that card for things like gas for the car. And a GPS worth $169 is not a bad deal for free. A thanks goes to the OP for finding this one.

Just got the email today that mine is on it's way but no tracking number yet. Applied for the card on the 5th and now the GPS is coming 10 days later, not bad at all.

I got my card last week. Used it Saturday. Got an e-mail Tuesday that said the GPS would ship from Amazon within the next 10 weeks.

I just did the lookup and:

OK .. got the card today .. will use it Sunday ... so from the way I read it, they should automatically notify me about the shipment of the Garmin Nuvi 200
Or is there anything else that needs to be done ?

Question for Nuvi 200 users: Can we load Golf Course maps into it ? ? That would be great so it could be used to calculate distances on the course.

It's about as good as it was when it started in terms of getting a GPS. The value of the GPS is probably less that $169.99 by another $20-30 though ...

Many times, they recycle tracking numbers and the information you see may be the old shipment. Check the date that it says it was delivered. it may be a year or two old.

I hope that's the case for your sake.
