Trackmania Nations has always been free so far, and it's definitely worth a download.
It's really more of an advertisement for their full game, Trackmania United Forever, but having bought the full version, I'd say don't bother with Trackmania United. There aren't many people who are online on United because most are playing Nations.

Its an awesome free game.
Its heavily cpu dependent. At my native resolution on my desktop i get 80fps on low. My laptop gets 28.
That is really good for the laptop as its graphics is non-existent. My laptop only gets 5-20fps at my native res in counterstrike 1.6.
