Good luck to all on getting this but it is very YMMV. :( Many stores are canceling the orders placed for in-store pickup but some people have been able to get it at the $29.99 price. Great deal if you are one of the lucky ones!

thanks OP

rang up at $59.99... showed my print-out showing $29.99... got a price over-ride and a "thank you" as she handed me the receipt and rebate form.

Then... i learned that the thing only comes with a "starter" print cartridge -- expected to last 30 whopping copies... WTH!!
I was going to use it myself if it had a full cartridge for ~150 pages -- but 30 seems awfully limiting.
I guess I'll ebay it, minus the UPC

Why don't you just buy your fax/print cartridges from eBay. They're usually around 5.00 a roll, (9.99 for 2 rolls +7.00 to 8.00 shipping for both with no tax. That comes out to 1/3 to 1/2 of the cost. Officedepots price is 21.99/roll/cart. That's 44.00 for 2 rolls plus tax. So cost for two rolls is around 47.00. eBay is 17.00 to 18.00 for 2 rolls shipped, no tax. I have an elcheapo Sharp fax machine, and I bought my rolls on eBay for around the same price. I won't link to an eBay auction but just put Brother FAX-575 into the search on eBay and you will find the auctions I am talking about. Just a suggestion. It's the same as buying the Epson or Canon printer and using the inexpensive ink carts.
