I'm wanting to host my own email server, just for personal use, and to learn a little along the way, any recommendations on what to use, preferably that is free? I have mDaemon right now, but that is supposed to be registered and I'd prefer to be legit.

if it makes any difference, I'm on DSL, using a namecheap (with their dynamic DNS service)

Since you already have a NameCheap.com domain I would register for $10/yr web hosting which includes email/webmail/POP3/IMAP.

That would be doing the opposite of what he wants though. I don't think he actually cares about having his own email and stuff, but rather he wants to gain experience of setting up an email server and playing with the settings.

For regular email, yeah, just get a hosting account.

Ah ok in that case I guess he should find an in house solution.

do a search on ATOT, i've posted the same topic a few months ago, and was told it was a repost- and alas it was.

so that makes yours a double repost, at least.
