Free DVD Rental for One Month (Netflix Alternative)

you can also try DVDOvernight.com, they have one free rental right now also, all rentals are 7 days though, after the free rental it's $4 each for older dvd's and $4.99 for newer ones. no monthly fee. i just signed up this past friday, should be getting my rentals in the next couple of days.

oh and they have adult movies too...haha

Too bad none of the online DVD places has a good collection of foreign films. 🙁 I was hoping to rent Heaven and Earth (the Japanese version), but none of them have it. Amazon sells this film in pitiful VHS format for $75. Bleh 🙁

Also looks like DVDOvernight is running a better trial deal through DVD talk:

I've been pretty happy with DVDOvernight - Have gotten some new releases just before street and they do have Porn 🙂

$4.00 or $4.99 rental? Jeeze... I'm moving from Chicago to a small Southern Wisconsin city and the local rental rates are 5 for $5.00, $2.99 new release, etc. Can't beat rental prices in the sticks. Of course the selection isn't all that so I'm sure some of these services are a great deal. But isn't NetFlix a better deal? Even with the NetFlix drawbacks (slow to credit returns, hard to get some rentals, etc) it still sounds ok.

Edit: Yeah, that 5 for $5.00 includes DVDs and it is a 5 day rental.

I signed up. It seems like they may have charged my credit card the $20 after I signed up. In the billing history, it shows that I was charged the $20 for a month membership. Hopefully they won't charge my credit card. I sent them an email just in case.

Anyone else getting this problem?

Well jeebus if a title isn't available on DVD you can't expect Netflix to stock it. For titles that actually exist Netflix has an excellent foreign selection, e.g. not just The Killer but also A Bullet in the Head, A Better Tomorrow 1 & 2, Time and Tide, etc. etc. Note though that to find many titles you need to "search" instead of just browsing by genre.

check out http://www.rentmydvd.com depending on how many DVDs you want to have at a time they have a certainly monthly fee but it is really reasonable. You can rent them as long as you like as long as you pay the monthly service charge. So no late fees. They also send you a postage paid envelope to mail it back in. I have only had great service from them. They were quick to resolve any issues I had.
