I just happened on this & thought it was pretty slick. The program scans your hardware & identifies each component. When finished you get a page with links to suggested drivers for all of your components. Could come in handy if you're insatlling an OS on a machine & aren't familiar with the hardware and/or some cards aren't clearly marked.

This is my first post so please be gentle.

Please stop the free software "Hot deals."

If this crud is a hot deal then I might as well post a link to download.com and become the forum's leading hot deal poster : - )

If it can save people time and money for a computer enthusiest, IMHO it should be in an Anandtech forum.

BTW, Crucial gives away a program called Belarc Advisor that does the exactly the same thing. I'd trust it more because it's distributed from a reputable company with a privacy policy, without spyware.

Personally I've hated real since a couple years ago when they "crapified" their software... made it bloated POS that brought you nothing but trouble.

Back on topic..... nice find guys :)

BTW, this will come in handy when the "computer illiterate" *cough* hot freshman *cough* come and ask me to fix their computers.....

"Oh Drew... I'm a hot skinny blonde and I like it rough. If you can fix my computer, I'll give you sexual favors as payment since I'm a poor college student and I have not money." :D :D :D :D :D

Time to stop daydreaming and get back to work... I"m on the clock ;)

Did any of you guys actually try this, or just praise it on the concept? I went and got it, fired it up (told Norton I'net Security to let it go to the 'Net, just once), and ran it. It came back and identified my gear, alright. But as for driver i.d. (the whole point), I got a whole list of results that said, "not in database, not in database, not in database, not in database, not in database, not in database, not needed, not in database, not in database, not in database, not in database). Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy on the execution. Don't waste your time. For example, I've got a GeForce2 MX400, and it says "not in database". Huh? Unless anyone else can post sterling results, I review this POS as thumbs down. A hot deal is only hot if it actually *works*, gang. I remember when I was just starting out in the work world, the boss would look at the results I handed him and start asking questions. Like he wanted to know how I got those results. Heck, I just thought I did the work and everything took care of itself. I figured out that I had to know that what I was giving him was meaningful. Otherwise, it was of no value, and he gave it back, telling me to do it again, the right way. Hope that helps!

Belarc realized my KR7A-Raid as a Abit KR7A model, got my vid card correctly, XP patches, printers, even Microsoft CD Keys for my licenced software!:Q It printed neatly into a html file.
